Alternative Photography Techniques

This assignment was to create images with typical, traditional methods of light and technique, and with non-traditional methods. For the untraditional image I projected a photograph already taken, taped a sketch sheet to a board in the studio, and traced the image. The shading was a detail that helped the overall image a lot. And my arm was sore by the end of it ;) Only took half an hour though.

This is the final image. I laminated it, I really like the feel of a hard copy. I am going to try and make a series for mum for Christmas.

Avedon

This is the Avedon-style portrait I shot last night. Long night, in the studio til 9:30. Paul wanted the portrait to convey strength and power, so I'm thinking that football players kiiiinda convey that, naturally. My brother James is thrilled to be on his high school team, it's one of the few shots I got in which he was actually serious. He's a goof. :p

There was another one I liked a bit more than this one with the helmet... But this one has a nice energy in it and his eyes have a glow and play quite the part. I accented the scar on his elbow, burnt and dodged around the edges and muscles, and retouched his shoulder like crazy because there was tiny white crap falling from his helmet and it looked like terrible dandruff. I left most of the helmet as is, it adds some grunginess to it. Took about three hours, but I think it looks cool.

Can you find my sign?

Cool story, bro!

Oh October...

I'm going to post my assignments this year. It'll keep me busy, and updating!

The first is a close crop assignment. It's a little soft and I should make the text darker, but it turned out okay. The highlight on the right, I think, is stellar. Thankssss Paul, for that.

This is my fave person in the world. It's supposed to be a business portrait, which is fitting, since Thomas is a business student.

These are supposed to be editorial-style pastry shots, with a good feel for d.o.f... except I can't decide which to submit. Probs the first one, most people (including Tom, haha) liked it better.

More coming soon. Also check out my flickr... I think only special favorites will go into flickr, and everything else will be posted here. It's been a while since I've posted anything anyways, so this should be filler for enough time.

Last but not least.....

As I've been writing more music lately, bought another guitar and took up violin, and have been trying to get some decent recordings done, I've made a new myspace and what was Raising Kangaroos is now a self titled thing that I'll post soon. I've also been playing at Marcello's in Streetsville on Wednesday nights (Jam Night)... It was scary as fuck but it felt so good. Adrenaline, baby.

SO. Here is the layout for the disc I'm thinking of making once a friend helps me record the songs. Once they're decent. Maybe I'll rent out a recorder from the cage and do it myself. We'll see, but for now...

Here it is:

Sleepy Child, It's Been a While

So it's only been, what... two months? I promise I'm going to try and update at least once or twice a week. Not for your sake, nay, but more for mine.

I need a new summer occupation.

IWANTHIM OUT

don't come pleading to me to take the title off because i won't have it. i don't give half a shit who reads this and quite frankly, the more the merrier. I Don't Care. Get RID of him.

Think, at least, if you won't think about my wearied heart or your poor soul or james' distraught conscience, think of the little girl in the photograph who has to run up to her room every time we start a row. She could be so much happier without it. And you wonder why she cries before going to her friends' house? I used to do the exact same thing, and still you fail to realize how incredibly nervous she is to face people who have it all together and with whom everything seems like a stroll in the park. She's broken, for fuck's sake. GET HIM OUT

My friend Emily and her roommate Amanda kindly accepted to be models for me. I might use the first one for the midterm assignment for digi, one of the 10 photos needed.
